- Toni_11Found this little gem tucked right next to the Huguang Guild Hall (湖广会馆) in Hufangqiao — like a tiny treasure of a cafe in Beijing's south side. The whole place has this strong traditional opera vibe (国风戏曲氛围), which honestly kinda surprised me for a coffee shop. The name 点绛唇 is actually a classical Chinese opera tune title, and right when you walk in you get why — courtyard-style seating built around a central garden, with a steel-frame second floor, and everything arranged in a 回 (square-loop) layout so each table feels pretty private. Loved the Chinese touches everywhere — the bar where they make the coffee is designed in a super symmetrical, very中式 style, and the two sides have these 出将 and 入相 signs that make you feel like you're literally backstage at a Peking opera show. Since the opera museum is right next door, they apparently host some small performances here too, which sounds amazing. Menu is coffee, desserts, sandwiches. I think they might have some alcoholic drinks but honestly not sure — and it's not a day-coffee-night-bar kinda spot, they close around 6 or 7pm. The area itself has some serious history — used to be where tons of opera (梨园) performers hung out back in the day, and a lot of old guild halls and famous actors' homes are still scattered around south Beijing. Honestly a bit bittersweet walking through, not much is preserved that well, but this cafe does a really nice job keeping that old-world feel alive. Parking right at the entrance too, which in Beijing is basically a miracle. Definitely worth a stop if you're exploring the area.
