All are clad in copper tiles finished with gold leaf, which ignite into a molten glow at sunset. When illumination switches on in early evening, the buildings appear to float above billowing clouds, evoking comparisons to mythical Asgard or the celestial citadels of Renaissance painting. This spectacle is arguably the single most photographed sight in central China and serves as the visual heart of any visit. **A Geological Marvel** The "Ten-Li Painting Screen" walk showcases one of China's rarest landforms: a granite detachment peak forest, where tectonic forces have sculpted a labyrinth of towering pillars and knife-edge ridges. Suspended boardwalks wind through this fantasy landscape, which recalls both the dolomite spires of the Italian Dolomites and the fantastical peaks of Chinese ink-wash paintings. At Mazong Ridge's main summit, a 360-degree observation platform rewards visitors with panoramic views across rolling mountains and the celebrated sea of clouds, a paradise for landscape photographers. **Four Seasons of Splendor** Laojun Mountain transforms dramatically through the year: May and June bring alpine azaleas blanketing the slopes in pink and crimson; July and August offer frequent dreamlike cloud seas and cool summit temperatures around 20°C, perfect for escaping lowland heat; October and November ignite the forests in fiery autumn reds and golds; and December through February cloaks the peaks in rime ice and snow, transforming the Golden Summit into a shimmering crystal palace reminiscent of a fairy-tale kingdom. **Practical Information for Visitors** Laojun Mountain lies about 2.5 hours' drive from downtown Luoyang. Visitors are strongly advised to ride the Zhongling cable car to mid-mountain, then transfer to the Peak Forest cable car, saving significant energy for the scenic walk to the summit. Allow 4 to 5 hours for a full visit. **Important note:** Due to military management zone restrictions, the park currently admits only holders of Chinese mainland second-generation ID cards; foreign passport holders cannot enter at this time.
