Founded in 2000 and opened to the public in 2003, Changchun World Sculpture Garden represents one of China's most ambitious cultural undertakings of the 21st century. The site's master plan centers on the elegant "Five Pavilions and One Lake" layout, weaving purpose-built exhibition halls into the natural landscape. Changchun Sculpture Museum anchors the experience, while the Wei Xiaoming Art Gallery and the松山 Han Rong African Art Collection introduce visitors to regional and contemporary voices. Moore Lake spreads across 11.8 hectares, its tranquil waters reflecting the surrounding hills in a manner reminiscent of Classical Chinese landscape painting fused with Italian Renaissance sensibility. The outdoor exhibition, arranged around the central Rodin Plaza, displays more than 460 carefully curated works organized into Eastern, Western, African, and Modern zones. Visitors can admire museum-quality originals such as Rodin's brooding "Thinker" and Aristide Maillol's serene "L'Air" alongside celebrated pieces from the Chinese contemporary scene. As a working venue for China's International Sculpture Invitational, the park invites resident artists to create new commissions, transforming each visit into a fresh encounter with living craft traditions. Practical access is straightforward. The garden sits at 9518 Renmin Avenue in Nanguan District, roughly a 30-minute drive from Changchun Longjia International Airport. Outdoor grounds remain free year-round, opening daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., while indoor pavilions operate 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some closed on Mondays. Foreign visitors can book online via the official WeChat account and enter with a passport. A combined ticket is recommended for the museum halls. Enter through the West Gate to begin at Rodin Plaza, where The Thinker anchors a procession of masterpieces. From there, stroll the wooden boardwalks circling Moore Lake, pausing at the African Collection for a vibrant change of scenery. Spring and autumn bring comfortable temperatures and brilliant foliage, summer offers cool shade beneath mature trees, and winter cloaks the sculptures in snow—a scene reminiscent of St. Petersburg's frozen gardens.
