Bengbu, a historic railway junction and glass-manufacturing hub in northern Anhui, has followed the same urban-renewal playbook seen from Hamburg's HafenCity to Pittsburgh's riverfront, turning former peripheral land into ecological public space. Yanshan Park, completed in July 2025 after construction began in August 2024, is the latest expression of this trend. Spanning roughly 94,250 square meters in a long rectangular footprint (about 541 by 183 meters), it fuses three functions rarely combined so seamlessly: habitat conservation, leisure, and stormwater management—a combination pioneered in climate-adaptive projects across Rotterdam and Copenhagen. The design reads like a layered landscape painting translated into infrastructure. A welcoming Gateway Plaza leads visitors onto elevated timber boardwalks threading through wetland basins, evoking the gentler scale of Bavaria's treetop Baumwipfelpfad walks. Below, aquatic flora supports herons and dragonflies, while an open-air observation bridge frames panoramic views over lotus-filled pools. A central Celebration Lawn anchors the spine, ringed by shaded paths, fitness courts, and quiet groves that recall the "borrowed scenery" tradition of English landscape gardens such as Stowe and Stourhead, transplanted to a modern Chinese urban context. Seasonal blooms give the park its cultural heartbeat. Spring brings drifts of cherry and rapeseed blossoms ideal for portrait photography; summer transforms the wetlands into a sea of pink and white lotus—the same contemplative tableau that inspired Monet at Giverny and has become a universal symbol of serene water-garden beauty. The boardwalks let visitors step directly into this scene, observing waterbirds and pollinators in a setting far removed from Bengbu's industrial core, just minutes from the city center. Entry is free and unstaffed; the recommended visiting window runs daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. To escape the North China Plain's midday heat, aim for 7:30–9:30 AM or after 4:30 PM. Begin at either the south or east gate—both offer free parking—and follow the suggested circuit: Gateway Plaza → Wetland Viewing Bridge → Elevated Boardwalk → Sports Area perimeter → Celebration Lawn, allowing 2–3 hours for the full loop. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and a reusable water bottle are essential, since on-site food and beverage services are minimal. There is no metro access, so ride-hailing or driving remain the most practical options, with Bengbu Railway Station roughly 15 minutes away by car. The park sits south of Huangshan Avenue and east of Yingbin Avenue—take care not to confuse it with the larger, mountainous Yanshan Park near Beijing's Fangshan District, which is an entirely different destination.
